A glimpse into SWINGPOSIUM's creation

Swingposium is coming to the Twin Cities for just three days, Oct 16-18! Here's a look at how this one-of-a-kind show came together.

Thunderous taiko, toe-tapping jazz, and swing dance come together in Swingposium, which tells the true story of how young Japanese Americans created joy and found hope despite being forced to stay in WWII incarceration camps. Expect to be moved by fear and loss, but equally inspired by the tenacity of these Japanese Americans—citizens and immigrants alike—to hold onto the light, even in the darkest of times.

Produced by San Jose Taiko and co-presented by TaikoArts Midwest and Theater Mu, this nationally acclaimed show comes to Saint Paul and features Gilmore Girls’ Emily Kuroda; local community member Gloria Kumagai, who will be discussing how the incarceration camps affected her family; and artists from Mu, Ensō Daiko, and San Jose Taiko.

This is an immersive, primarily standing event. Limited amounts of seats are available on a first come, first served basis, and artists may ask if you want to leave your seat to move and dance. Seating priority will be given to people with access needs. Please note necessary accommodations in the appropriate spot in the ticket purchasing process. 

PRICE

Advanced tickets to the show are $35, with youth tickets at $25 (available for those 17 years and under). Tickets will be $40 at the door.

Groups of 10+ can receive discounted tickets costing $25: Reach out to info@theatermu.org to book. This production has audience interaction and encourages people to move around and dance, but accessible seating will be available.

Swingposium will take place at CSPS Hall, located at 383 W Michigan St, Saint Paul, MN 55102. There is a dedicated parking lot for the hall as well as street parking.
