Seeking actors for the world premiere of Samah Meghjee’s Maybe You Could Love Me. AEA actors will be on an SPT 6 contract and receive a minimum of $605 per week. Non-AEA actors will be paid a minimum of $15 per hour or equivalent rate. All roles are local contracts.

SYNOPSIS

Two childhood friends must choose between arranged marriages or leaving their families’ Islamic culture, which is made more complicated in light of their own growing love for each other. 

REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCE DATES

  • First Rehearsal: Aug 12, 2025

  • Tech week: Sept 3-13, 2025

  • Previews: Sept 11 & 12, 2025

  • Opening Night: Sept 13, 2025

  • Closing Performance: Sept 28, 2025

Rehearsals will take place at the Mu Studio (755 Prior Ave. N, #107, Saint Paul), with times determined by the cast and creative team’s collective availability. Tech rehearsals and performances will be at Mixed Blood Theatre (1501 Fourth St., Minneapolis).

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

Noor - Female, Asian/MENASA/BIPOC, 20s-30s. Unable to confront her sexuality due to the expectations placed upon her by her parents and brothers. Hardened by the world and gets what she wants. In addition to their adult age, the actor will also portray Noor at 8 years old and 17 years old.

Sajida - Female, Asian/MENASA/BIPOC, 20s-30s. Closeted young Muslim woman yearning for the love of her best friend. Her parents are divorced, and Sajida wants to leave her hometown and the stringent conservative community. In addition to their adult age, the actor will also portray Sajida at 8 years old and 17 years old.

WHAT TO SUBMIT & PREPARE

  1. Fill out our audition form, which will also ask you to send over your headshot and resume to auditions@theatermu.org.

  2. Sign up for in-person auditions at our SignUpGenius. In-person auditions are Sunday, May 18, from 11 am-4 pm CT and May 19 from 4-9 pm at the Mu Studio (755 Prior Ave. N, #107, Saint Paul). Auditions are by appointment only.

    • All Equity actors will be seen even if slots are full. If all time slots are full, Equity actors may contact auditions@theatermu.org with a few different time-slot choices, and we will reach out to you with your designated audition time.

  3. Acting sides are available in this folder. Please prep for all interested roles, but come ready to identify and audition for your first choice. Callbacks will be invite only and will take place May 26 from 4-9 pm CT at the Mu Studio.

  4. If you cannot make it in person, please submit a video to auditions@theatermu.org with the recorded acting side for your most desired role by May 19 at 9 pm CT.
