ACTOR’S WORKOUT

with FRAN DE LEON

WEEKLY TRAINING FOR ACTORS

Throughout the spring, Mu artistic Fran de Leon is leading month-long acting sessions customized to the experience and goals of who enrolls in the session. A typical session may include: 

  • focusing on different acting techniques, such as Strasberg or Meisner, to practice methods to unlock emotions 

  • sharpening a monologue of the actor's choosing

  • analyzing and embodying a scene with partner work

  • working with professional guest instructors

The Actor's Workout is designed for any actor (18+) at any point in their career. Before each session begins, participants will be required to submit their headshot and an updated acting resume/explanation of their acting experience and their short-term and long-term goals.

Registration for each session ends a week before the first class. Sign up for more than one and receive a discount!

GENERAL INFORMATION


DATES

Classes are Mondays, 6:30-9:30 pm CT

Feb Session: Feb 2, 9, 16, & 23 (registration due Jan 26)

Mar Session: Mar 2, 9, 16, & 23 (registration due Feb 23)

Break from Mar 24-Apr 19

Apr/May Session: Apr 20 & 27, May 4 & 11 (registration due Apr 13)

LOCATION

This MTI course will take place in person in the Mu Studio (755 Prior Ave. N, Suite 107, Saint Paul, MN 55104).

TUITION

Each month-long session is $120. The more sessions you register for at one time, the greater the discount! Sessions do not have to be consecutive.

An individual registering for: 

  • two sessions pays $220 (8.5% discount).

  • three sessions pays $300 (16.6% discount).

WORK STUDY

One full scholarship is available per session to a student who will host as class manager. The class manager arrives ~30 minutes early to help set up, stays ~30 minutes after class to help clean up, and assists with weekly communication. If you’re interested in this role, please email info@theatermu.org. We will be reviewing inquiries on a rolling basis.

ABOUT FRAN DE LEON


Fran de Leon

FRAN (she/her) joined Theater Mu as artistic director in spring 2025. Fran began producing at 19, including her one-person show, Faces of America, which toured to over 500 venues. She has also served as co-artistic director of Will & Company, director of new talent for Playfair, an ensemble member of Critical Mass Performance Group, and as adjunct faculty at USC. Fran is a 2025 Drama League directing fellow and a finalist for the Barb Whitman Award. Selected commissions from: Segerstrom Center’s Arts Teach, TreePeople, Twelfth Night Rep, and Center Theatre Group. Selected TV credits: For All Mankind, For the People, Criminal Minds, Speechless, and The Brothers Sun.
