2021/22 SEason: SEEING OURSELVES
“For the past two years, we have taken inspiration for our seasons from prominent Asian American activists and leaders. We were inspired by Yuri Kochiyama to reimagine our futures. We were motivated by Grace Lee Boggs to revolutionize theater. Through our Pay As You Are pricing model, blending of theater and livestream events, revamped education programs, and exciting use of social media; we have pushed ourselves to make theater accessible and to nurture the next generation of Asian American artists.
This year, Theater Mu plans to celebrate and honor the life of photographer Corky Lee, who dedicated his life to documenting Asian American history so that future generations could look back and reflect on where they’ve come from. Through this salient time, we’d like to reflect on the challenges, humanity, and hopes we’ve all shared—and how important our stories are to the narrative of America. As Mu gears up to celebrate its 30th birthday, we also want to spend this season reflecting on the decades of contributions Theater Mu, along with its artists and supporters, have made to the theater landscape, how much we’ve grown these last few years, and what we will take with us as we continue our mission to reflect ourselves on the stage.”
