SEEKING MARKETING & PROGRAMS INTERN
Schedule: Part time approx. 12 hours per week
Time frame: mid-January through mid-May 2024 (start and end dates flexible)
Compensation: $13 per hour

JOB OVERVIEW
Theater Mu is looking for a spring intern to support its marketing and programs departments through content creation, outreach, and research. The internship can be partially remote, but we would like for you to be available at least three consecutive hours per week in person at 755 Prior Ave. N, Suite 107, Saint Paul, MN 55104.* If this is a health, safety, or accessibility issue, please don’t hesitate to let us know, and we can discuss other options.
While you will be supervised by the marketing and communications director, you will be working with most if not all of Mu’s staff throughout the internship, particularly the programs manager. Prioritized internship projects for the spring include:
assisting with a short film (~5 minutes) about our Mu Stories school residencies
creating brochures about our youth programming
creating social media and website pages around our Mu Training Institute and Mu Explorations offerings
assisting with entering survey data around our mainstage productions
Other possible internship tasks are listed below, but we also try to tailor tasks to your experience, goals, and interests. In general, from January through May 2024, we will be marketing The Nosebleed (Jan 25-27), the second Lunar New Year Cabaret (Feb 4), Hells Canyon (Feb 23-Mar 17), The Name Jar (Mar 22-Apr 14), Blended 和 (Harmony): The Kim Loo Sisters (May 4-26), Mu Explorations Summer Camp, and Mu Training Institute classes.

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
Theater Mu was founded in 1992 as a theater company dedicated to bringing Asian American voices to the stage in the Twin Cities, and it has become the largest Asian American theater company in the Midwest. Through performance and community outreach, Mu provides an unparalleled resource for Asian American artists, introduces Asian American stories and issues to audiences of all backgrounds, and gives Asian Americans of all ages and ethnicities a place to connect and belong.
INTERN QUALIFICATIONS
18 years or older
Must be able to hold office hours (remote or in person) between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. CT
Self-starter and willingness to learn
Positive attitude
Reliable communication skills (verbal, written, etc.)
Understanding of Theater Mu and its mission
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite or Canva, graphic design, social media management, photography, videography, theater production, and PatronManager isn’t required, but please let us know if you have experience with them in your cover letter or resume.
INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES
These may vary depending on your personal goals and interests, but generally speaking, it will look something like the following.
50% communications & marketing, such as:
social media content creation and management
graphic creation on Canva or InDesign
video filming and editing
newsletter support
communications/demographics data entry and analysis
blog post creation to provide behind-the-scenes or historical insight to mainstage productions
playbill support (collecting and adding in artist bios/headshots, proofreading)
tabling, if available (there will always be another Mu staff with you at these events)
30% programs, such as:
data analysis and brochure creation around Mu Explorations Summer Camp and Mu Stories
research and recommendations around accessibility
research and support for creating written, educational guides to The Remix video series
research and compilation of youth-focused Asian American plays
15% administration/database, such as:
entering audience surveys into Mu's online form
updating artist database with headshots, resumes, etc.
cleaning up patron information (typos, duplicates, addresses)
5% miscellaneous, such as:
event support on evenings and weekends are possible depending on availability
script reading (depending on related experience)

*Prior to the intern’s in-person employment, Theater Mu will conduct a COVID-19 risk assessment that looks at community transmission level in the last four weeks; current community vaccination and county hospitalization rates; current price, accuracy, and availability of rapid antigen testing, PCR testing (including public testing sites); and any new research developments regarding the spread and treatment of COVID-19, particularly relating to methods of transmission. If the COVID-19 pandemic is shown to be significantly trending toward increased public health concern, masking and physical distancing may be required, and/or staff may take shifts in the office or go completely remote. All Theater Mu staff have either received full COVID-19 vaccinations or have provided documentation supporting their exemption for religious or medical reasons.
